Menno Schmidt (1972) studied Dutch Law at the University of Utrecht and graduated with his Master’s thesis on ‘legal aspects of electronic security’. He also studied in Vienna, where he then worked as a registrar and later as a trainee lawyer at Schubert Rechtsanwälte in Vienna, Austria. He was sworn in as a lawyer in Amsterdam in 2001. Menno Schmidt successfully completed the specialist Grotius training on ICT Law in 2004.
His international legal practice focuses on providing mainly commercial legal services to companies and private individuals. He specialises in cross-border relations with Austria, Germany and Switzerland. He also works as an arbitrator.
Menno Schmidt has been registered as a lawyer at the Rechtsanwaltskammer in Vienna, Austria since 2013 and works there too. He was appointed as legal expert by the Handelsgericht in Vienna to give advice about issues regarding agency law in Dutch Law.
From 2009 to 2019 Menno Schmidt was a board member of the Dutch Chamber of Commerce for Austria in Vienna.
Menno Schmidt is a member of various associations inlcuding the Europäische Anwaltsvereinigung, Sport en Recht (Sports and Law), the Dutch Association of Vienna (Nederlandse Vereniging van Wenen) and Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and the Österreichischer Rechtsanwaltsverein.
